How to review a photo-to-3D study against its source
Photo-based 3D studies need a silhouette check before detail distracts you. Separate what the photograph shows from what a reconstruction guesses about hidden surfaces.

A small example to work through
Use our fictional lamp brief: a round shade above a narrow stem, photographed front-on. The worksheet separates visible evidence from unknown depth; it contains no generated model.
| Item | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shade width | Visible in front photo | Compare outline at the same view |
| Stem depth | Hidden | Record as unknown rather than a measured result |
| Rear seam | Not photographed | Do not treat a generated seam as recovered construction |
| Base footprint | Partially occluded | Request another view for a reliable comparison |

Use the blank observation and decision fields to record your own result. These downloads are planning worksheets; they do not load an app project or demonstrate a completed export.
Try it and inspect the result
- Open the explicit Cast review studio and choose Cast from its menu. Preserve your source image before starting a study.
- Compare the model from the original camera direction. Match framing before judging whether the outer contour agrees.
- Rotate the study and mark surfaces absent from the photograph. Keep these assumptions beside the exported study if the current preview supports export.
When the result differs
- Good texture but wrong outline
- Return to the silhouette; a convincing surface does not correct geometry.
- Back looks detailed
- Detail on an unseen back is an inference, not source evidence.
- Need exact dimensions
- Add measurements or a measured modelling workflow rather than inferring size from one photograph.
What this example establishes
Cast is a preview on the review deployment. This worksheet helps assess an approximation; it does not certify reconstruction, watertightness, measured fit or a completed export workflow.
This page supplies a worked example and a review method. It does not report a newly completed end-to-end app test. For current availability and edition details, read the Cast overview.
