How to prepare artwork for a mockup without stretching it
Placing a design in a product preview can distort its proportions. Compare the source aspect ratio with the placement area before deciding whether to crop, contain or redraw the artwork.

A small example to work through
Our original placement example puts a 1200 × 1600 design into a 900 × 1200 display area. Both are 3:4. A square placement requires a different decision.

Try it and inspect the result
- Open Luma and choose Mockup in the studio menu. Keep an unmodified copy of the artwork and note its width and height.
- Choose the placement and inspect whether the design is cropped or stretched. Use recognisable circles or lettering to expose distortion.
- Download a test if the current workspace permits it and inspect the downloaded file separately. A working download and a correct on-screen preview are different checks.
When the result differs
- Circle becomes oval
- Width and height were scaled independently. Preserve the aspect ratio.
- Important text disappears
- Use contain or revise the design margins rather than accepting an accidental crop.
- Preview is blank
- Inspect any downloaded result independently and report the preview issue; do not infer success from the preview alone.
What this example establishes
These are placement calculations, not a photographed product or a new Mockup export. The earlier browser test produced a PNG despite a blank preview. A mockup cannot establish print colour, physical fit or manufacturing accuracy.
